One Of The Most Hazardous Volcanos In The World Is The Mount Ulawun In Papua New Guinea. It Erupted Today Sending Residents Fleeing In Terror!

Mount Ulawun Volcano began spewing ash today, turning the sky black and causing villages to be evacuated.
A helicopter pilot flying near the crater witnessed a column of lava erupting vertically into the sky, along with ash that it's been belching since early morning.
The lava had cut off the main highway North of the island and some reported ash spewing out of the 7,657 foot summit.
The volcano, located on the remote Bismerck Archipelago, is listed as one of the 16 "Decade Volcanoes" targeted for research because they pose a significant risk of large violent eruptions.
Kinsly Quou, the manager of the nearby Mavo Estates, a palm plantation said, "The sky has turned black! And that the villagers had already been evacuated from the foot of the volcano". Quau also stated that his colleagues were gathering their belongings.
The volcanic activity on Mount Ulawun began at 7 a.m. this morning after slight rumbling and "light emission" said Leo Porikura, an official with the West New Britain Disaster Office.
The Rubaul Volcano Observatory has declared a stage one alert warning of a possible eruption of Mount Ulawun.
Thousands of people live in the shadow of Mount Ulawun, despite it being one of the most active volcanoes in the country.

Japanese satellite imagery including sources on the ground show sulfur dioxide and volcanic ash drifting from the crater.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology said the ash reached more than 13 kilometers/44,000 feet in the air.
The Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Center issued a Red Warning to airlines, indicating the eruption was imminent, although there is not believed to be an immediate threat for flight routes.
Porikura said, "people living in the vicinity of the volcano had been instructed to move away to safer areas". And, "a disaster team had been dispatched".

Porikura said, "the disaster team will liaise with a locoal community, businesses and local government authorities to prepare for a possible eruption". Porikura continued, "three crucial priority areas being addressed include transport planning, care center preparations and getting the communities in the high-risk areas to prepare for an evacuation".
The nearby Rabual Volcano Observatory said emissions from the volcano were getting darker, indicating a high ash content which can cause breathing problems, eye and skin irritation due to the high acid content.
A team of experts had visited earlier this month and reported the volcano was "quiet" adding, "there is no indication of any change in its state of unrest".
"The ash emissions had been proceeded by an increase in seismic activity", said Porikura.

Update -
August 3, 2019 Another large eruption of Mount Ulawun to 19 km (63,000 ft).
Unrest has once again escalated and a new phase of major eruptive activity occurred between around 10:00 and 11:00 UTC today, sending a mushroom cloud to 19km, as in the VEI 4 eruption in June. This event appears to have been smaller and has now ended- satellite imagery shows the ash cloud drifting away from the volcano. The Rabaul Volcano Observatory sent out an alert of increasing seismicity yesterday, with more advanced warning than in June, which reflects the smaller size of this event.
